Following years of revenue declines, government agencies are being pressured to reduce spending and “do more with less.” Government IT departments face staff reductions and aging infrastructures at a time of greater public demand for increased access and transparency.

    Public-sector outages and impacts

A recent Government Technology readership survey commissioned by Cox Business showed that network disruptions are not as uncommon as many would think. And the impact of network outages can be significant.

    Among the findings
    • More than 50% of respondents report that improving network redundancy is their most important network priority
    • 65% of survey participants cited critical infrastructure failure as the biggest cause of network disruptions
    • 39% of organizations surveyed reported five or more network disruptions/outages in the last year
    • 30% of respondents indicated that a 24-hour network outage would result in a financial loss of $100,000 or more
