MultiProtocol Label Switching (MPLS) overlay network provides Cox’s national backbone higher levels of privacy, security, reliability and data speeds. MPLS gives the network the ability to prioritize traffic based on data type, so critical applications such as voice and video are given priority over less time-sensitive applications such as email.

Our state-of-the-art, self-healing MPLS network operates over our DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) backbone. The MPLS overlay network enables us to provide carrier-grade reliability and quality of service and is enabled by fully redundant core routers that are deployed in each of our Internet peering locations, as well as our 12 regional data centers (RDCs).
