Casa Grande steps into the future with Cox Business

CASA GRANDE – Public safety just became a little safer in Casa Grande thanks to a major Internet and phone upgrade from Cox Business. The city’s public safety buildings, including police and fire, have faced service outages due to old equipment, but that’s changing because of Cox Business.
Now, Casa Grande’s new public safety building is wired with Cox Business Metro Ethernet, which provides lightning-fast connectivity and increased bandwidth between the public safety building and the department’s data center at City Hall. “Cox Business gave us seamless, high-speed connectivity to one of our critical, core-mission facilities,” says Stephanie Adams, IT manager for city of Casa Grande.
Casa Grande’s phone system had reached the end of its life. The best solution for the city was Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP), says Adams. “It requires an incredibly solid infrastructure,” she says. Ultimately, 90 percent of City Hall’s phone lines will become VOIP through Cox Business. “Residents will not experience any changes, except increased reliability as the system comes fully online in mid-July,” adds Adams.
Adams explains that other carriers were in the mix to gain the Casa Grande business “but they were not flexible like Cox Business,” she says, adding, “If we would have installed this system ourselves, it would have cost taxpayers $1.5 million and Cox Business did it for a fraction of that.”
According to Hyman Sukiennik, vice president of Cox Business Arizona, “We recognized the value of partnering with the city of Casa Grande and knew that we could bring its public safety communications infrastructure into the future in an affordable manner.”
